Take My Yoke Upon You…
When we reach out to Jesus Christ what does that mean to our soul, to our heart, to our mind and to our strength? Are we drawing nearer to Jesus or…or are we setting ourselves up to follow our will instead of following God’s will? Are we merely settling for self-idolatry or are we walking with Jesus Christ?
This is a difficult question. We like to think we are following Jesus Christ, but are we? We like to believe what we are doing is in the name of Jesus Christ, but is it?

When we“come unto me (Jesus)” what are we actually, physically doing? Anything? Everything? Is this something of the way we confirm our identity in Christ?
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. ~ Matthew 11:29 KJB
When we approach Jesus we are to leave ourselves behind. We are to leave everything, our religion, our finances, our family, our home, our job, our everything. We leave it, walk away and don’t look back. This is stated time and again throughout the Torah and The New Covenant. When do we actually, physically do this? Is it possible in our world? Is it merely a metaphysical gesture that Jesus is referencing?
Drawing near to Jesus Christ should be the driving force of a Christian life. It should be the reason we awaken every morning and proceed with our day. It should be the what we seek first in all aspects of our life. If it is not what we seek first then what are we doing? Self-idolatry. Religion. We are not following the Gospel, Jesus Christ.
Could we not spend the rest of today and possibly longer focused on this one verse – Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls – to discover what Jesus is teaching us? The richness of each word should give us pause in only reading what is written. The Living Word of God is before us and we act like it is just another book filled with words-on-a-page. This is the reason for all the questions. This is the reason for spending time everyday drinking deeply of the Living Water. We are dying of thirst as the Words bounce off our soul and barely make it to the door, much less out into the world where they can impact our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Either the Scripture is the divine Word of God teaching us how to live and how to be a reflection of God, or it’s nothing more than a historical account of events.
